Great Post On NerdFitness

December1

This whole post is directly copied from NerdFitness.  Something everyone should read! The post title is, “It Will Never Be”

It will never be:

  • easy
  • perfect
  • the right time

Nobody is going to:

  • tell you exactly what to do
  • drag you out of bed in the morning
  • yell at you to eat healthy
  • lift weights for you
  • run a race for you

There will always be:

  • holidays
  • sick days
  • sleepless nights
  • early mornings
  • vacations
  • bad weather
  • long days at the office

It will always be easier to:

  • say no
  • hit SNOOZE
  • do nothing
  • settle
  • blame others
  • make excuses
  • give up
  • say “I tried my best” when you really didn’t

Life is freaking tough - health, wealth, and happiness certainly don’t come easy.

For those reasons, you don’t need:

  • The best equipment
  • The best business plan
  • The PERFECT workout program (it doesn’t exist)
  • A super specific meal plan

And it’s okay to:

  • not have all of the answers yet – NOBODY does
  • not have your life completely figured out yet – NOBODY does
  • get started and figure things out as you go

As Teddy Roosevelt once said, “Do the best you can, with what you have, where you are.”

Take action.  Make changes.

You will make mistakes.   You will fail.  Embrace it.

You know what’s NOT okay?

  • to expect instant success and gratification
  • to give up immediately when life doesn’t go your way
  • to keep doing the same thing while expecting different results
  • to coast through life while complaining about it
  • to constantly wonder “what if” without ever finding out

Tomorrow never comes.

Eventually never happens.

Today.

Now.

Shut up and start.

I’m Still Alive

November15

Life has been insane lately.  We got through my sons birthday party and my parents have left.  We’re getting ready to go away for a long weekend with some friends and then Jason’s parents are here for a week over Thanksgiving (we have one day back before they arrive).

I’m behind on everything and desperately trying to catch up.  The computer has not been a priority for me lately.  Things will slow down for us in December and I promise to be back.  Just wanted to quickly check in and say, “hi” and let you know I’m still here (and still wanting to change the name of this blog).   LOL!  Hope you’re all doing well!

I’m Still Here

October26

Sorry to be MIA…yet again.  I’ve got so much on my plate right now that it’s a bit overwhelming.  We just had my sons 2-year photos taken (still need to get them printed and mailed out, but that won’t happen for a bit…booked until eternity, it feels). :) Here’s one of our family pictures and a couple of my little guy.

Upcoming Events:

  • Get ready for sons 2nd birthday party (making most of the decorations and need to pick several things up)
  • Clean and get the house ready
  • My parents are arriving Friday evening and staying (off and on, as they visit friends) for a couple of weeks
  • Need to get 2-year pictures printed out, cut up, address and mail envelopes (buy stamps first)
  • Vacation with some friends for the very first time (super excited about this one, but it’s right in between both parents visits)
  • The inlaws are coming for Thanksgiving this year and I’m making the BIG meal (AGH!)
  • I have playdates or appointments every…single…morning through the month of November.  Not a day free.

I’ve had a tickle in my throat that loves to come out at the most inconvenient times (either while out and about with friends or while sleeping). Sleeping has been very interrupted over the past few nights with my multiple coughing fits that get me up and out of the bed. Ugh! I’m tired and exhausted and my sweet little boy has turned into a terror (and at times, I feel that saying that is putting it mildly). :)

Yep, see, I always have an excuse for something, right?  These are just my excuses for not blogging lately.

30 Day Challenge Update

October16

I’m so sorry for not posting this yesterday as planned.  This weekend has been completely non-stop.  Today is the first chance I’ve had to catch my breath, but only for two hours as we will be off again taking a meal to a family from our Bible study who just had a baby.  I was suppose to have some time yesterday afternoon to post, but we had a house showing and we spent that free time cleaning the house.

WEIGHT:
30 Days Ago         Today
160.0                      151.5

MEASUREMENTS:
.                 30 Days Ago          Today          Difference
Waist:               36                      34.5             1.5 inches
Hips:                 43                      42                      1 inch
Thigh:               22                      20                   2 inches
Calf:                   14                      13.75             .25 inch

I’m not surprised by the number on the scale, although I think it’s really good.  I had expected between 7-10 pounds and hit within that range for sure. My measurements are another story.  My clothes fit so much better and I thought for sure my waist and hips (especially hips as that’s where I’ve noticed it the most on me) would be a larger number of loss.  I’m not bummed, just surprised that the numbers aren’t more different.

I will admit that I only exercised MAYBE 5 times the whole month and at that, it was only for 15-20 minutes each time.  I’ve been doing fairly well at getting up early, but only have time to either exercise or spend time with God and I choose God.

We had two birthday parties this weekend, so I took the weekend off from eating well and just enjoyed myself.

Yesterday was Brody’s best friends birthday party.  It was incredible!!! The decorations were off the chart and the food was so amazing!  I ate Buffalo Chicken dip with tortilla chips (to die for and my mouth was watering for this from the day I was told it was going to be served), strawberry cake that was so moist and flavorful, a chocolate chip cookie dough dip with Teddy Grahams and a pumpkin fluff dip with gingersnaps.  YUM!  We even took home a chocolate caramel apple and two cake pops.  We ate Jimmy Johns subs last night for dinner.

This morning I had Starbucks (haven’t seen them in over a month).  I enjoyed a Pumpkin Spice Latte.  My neighbor celebrated her 40th birthday, so off to enjoy time with them and BBQ food (baked beans, green beans, mac n cheese, coleslaw, bbq chicken, ribs, pulled pork, brownies, and an ice cream cake (strawberry…must be the birthday theme this weekend).  And no, I didn’t eat all of that food at their house.  That’s just what was served.

We’re taking dinner to friends tonight (lasagna) and we’ll eat that as well for our dinner.  Back on track tomorrow.  I’d say 30 more days, but with my sons birthday party at the end of the month and family visiting, we’ll eat out some, etc…, I’ll get back on track tomorrow, enjoy the party and visitors, then on track again.

Thanks for rooting me on.  Looking for that 140 number on the scale and then I can get my new purse (I HATE the one I have now!!!). :)

Day 30 – I Made It!

October14

Today marks day 30. I can’t believe I did a WHOLE 30-day challenge! I will admit that I was great until this past week. For some reason, I was starting to crave the junk food again. I was bummed that feeling came back. I was loving the fact that I wasn’t phased by my new lifestyle.

I’ll weigh in and take measurements again tomorrow morning and post the changes that came within the 30 days. I’m excited, yet nervous about stepping on the scale tomorrow morning.

I did make two videos (one 35 days ago and one 2 days ago). I took a quick screen shot of each video (not the best pic of Brody or I as it was first thing in the morning and we were singing both times to people who were having birthdays on that day).  Anyway, I can see a difference in my face (and I don’t think it’s due to the fact that my hair is up in one and down in the other). My face just doesn’t look as puffy. Even if you don’t agree, just lie to me.   It’s also fun to see if anything has changed around the room in my office (check out my cluttered project table again…*sigh*). :)

Tomorrow is Brody’s best friends birthday party. There will be a TON of yummy food there. I want to partake and unfortunately feel it would be a fun reward to do so. I also want to stay on track and not eat a thing there. I’m struggling and I’m afraid the junk food junkie in me will win out. I’m thinking that I may enjoy the goodies, but in extreme moderation. We’ll see how it plays out.

I have a very early morning tomorrow and super busy day, so I’ll do my best to update with my stats while Brody is sleeping, so check back mid afternoon tomorrow (Saturday).

I'm Jan, a mid-30's, SAHM. I've been overweight since 1998 and continued to pack on the pounds each year. Since my son was born (October 2009), it has given me the motivation I need to get this weight off once and for all. To learn more about me, go to my about me page.
